Why do tariffs lead to inflation and how does this affect the average consumer?
We don't believe people truly understand that when tariffs are increased, the consumer is the one who ultimately pays for it. We break it down from a business perspective, explaining that if a business's cost goes up because of a tariff, they will simply raise their prices to maintain their profit margin. This price increase is passed directly to you, making everything more expensive.
What is the bigger conversation about immigration that people are missing?
What people don't understand is that immigration, even undocumented, provides a vital labor supply that keeps costs down, particularly in sectors like construction, agriculture, and hospitality. If that supply is wiped out, the demand for labor goes up, and so do wages, which gets passed on to the consumer as even more inflation. We feel like people need to understand how so many things impact each other.
How can I prove my value and overcome stereotypes when looking for a job?
We talk about how DEI was designed to ensure people of color were not overlooked, not to give them preferential treatment. The best way to overcome stereotypes is to put in the work and be the best of the best. You have to understand that your skills and your expertise should speak for themselves, and you must be relentless in pursuing excellence.
How can I overcome the lack of opportunities that come from not being in the right network?
We discuss how our networks are our net worth, and how it’s difficult for people to get in the room with powerful decision-makers if they don't know anyone in those circles. The solution is to get a little bit of support, or in our case, find an advocate who can vouch for you and your abilities to the right people, allowing you to get your foot in the door and prove your worth.
